Annie was pregnant when she was dumped in a rural area, and she was lucky to be taken in by a family who took good care of her through the delivery of her puppies. Even though we're pretty sure Annie got pregnant during her first heat cycle, and was less than a year old when her puppies were born, she was a good mom to them, and they are growing up to be happy and healthy.

Once the puppies reached 10 weeks of age, we separated them from Annie, and got her to the vet for spay and vaccinations. She is adjusting happily to her new-found freedom from motherhood, and has assimilated nicely into the house pack at Windsong Ranch. Annie likes playing with other dogs, but also is learning the joy of being a couch potato.

Annie looks thin right now as a result of whelping, and her coat is thin, but now that she's not nursing 8 puppies, we're sure she will start to put on weight and her coat will fill in nicely. She's already a pretty girl, and will soon be truly beautiful.

For those of you with backyard chickens or a small homestead, you'll be glad to hear that Annie was safe around the goats who lived at the home where she was taken in after being dumped. Here at Windsong Ranch, she goes to our chicken yard daily and has been safe with our chickens. She definitely prefers life inside the house, but as a pet, she could be trusted not to harm your goats and chickens.

If you have always wanted a "big white dog" but thought the size and plush coat was just too much for you, Annie might be the perfect dog for you. Compared to most of the dogs we rescue, Annie is just a medium-size dog, but to the average person, she would be considered a large dog. She weighed around 55 lbs when she was spayed, and we think a good healthy weight for her will be around 70 lbs.
