Pointer / Akbash (short coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Large
Slim's history before landing in an impoundment facility in East Texas is unknown. The only thing we know is that he is one of the lucky few who made it out of that facility, which kills more dogs and cats than they release to rescues. When we saw Slim's photo, we thought we were rescuing an Akbash, but when we actually met him in person, we realized that he looks much more like a bird dog than a livestock guardian dog. He has a deep chest and a deep baying bark to go with it. We're pretty sure he's a sight hound, and Pointer seems like the closest match. But we'll admit -- we don't know much about hunting breeds, so if you look at Slim's photos and think he's a different breed, we would love to hear from you. Slim is a happy dog who loves nothing better than digging. His play yard looks like he's doing a major excavation in preparation for building a swimming pool. Unfortunately for Slim, our pond is dry about 11 months out of the year, so we can't say for sure that he would enjoy swimming in it, but he definitely enjoys cooling off in the 50-gallon water tub in his play yard. Slim gets along with other dogs and is very friendly with people. He's big and excitable, so he would probably do best in a home with children over 12.
